Memorials and Tribute Gifts

If you have a loved one who has been impacted by their experience with the Metropolitan Opera, establishing a memorial or tribute gift through your will or other estate plan is a meaningful way to honor them or celebrate a special occasion, such as a birthday, while supporting the opera. Your memorial or tribute gift will extend the legacy of your loved one and will make a difference.

How It Works

John and his mother smiling When John's mother passed away, he knew he wanted to do something that would establish a lasting legacy for her. He knew of her fondness for the Met and that she never missed the opportunity to take in a performance.

John decided to make a gift to the Met in his mother's name using appreciated securities. Not only will his mother's legacy live on at the Met thanks to the gift, but John also qualified for a federal income tax charitable deduction and eliminated capital gains tax on the securities.
